Speed Reading

Introduction:

Speed reading is defined as reading one thousand words per minute. Although this may be obtainable by a few, it is not a realistic goal for the average people. The brain can, however, adequately handle 400 to 500 words per minute. This is an appropriate goal.

The essence of the course is to tell the participants to: skip and skim, and read faster than is comfortable, and skip basics words, such as, the and then. This course provides basic sight reading practice. Sight-reading is reading by sight, without mentally decoding the words phonetically. In others words, reading without pronouncing the words in your head.

Speed Reading can help you to read and understand written information much more quickly. This makes it an essential skill in any environment where you have to master large volumes of information quickly, as is the norm in fast-moving professional environments. It's a key technique to learn if you suffer from "information overload", because it helps you to become much more discriminating about the information that you consume.

Brief

Reading speed is not just something you were born with. It is trainable and able to be developed just like any other skill.

Speed Reading techniques have been designed to not only increase your reading speed, but to also allow better retention and comprehension of the things you read. Speed Reading techniques are based upon forty years research into how your eyes actually function and upon how your eyes interact with your brain. These techniques are entirely natural and more in tune with how your mind actually works that many of the 'ordinary' slow reading techniques that most people use.

Breaking bad habits

  • Sub vocalization (pronouncing the words in your mind while you read).

  • Re-Reading/Regression (letting your eyes skip back to a previous sentence).

What you will learn:

  • Reduce Your Eye Fixation Time (time spent when your eyes are focused on a single point.

  • Expand Your Eye Fixation Zone (ability to read a wider text width when your eyes are focused on a single point).

  • Increase Your Re-Fixation Speed (ability to reposition your eyes at a rapid rate).

What you will gain:

  • Proficient Reading = Proficient Learning.

  • Once you unlock your reading potential, you will unlock your ability to learn everything more proficiently.

  • Better performance on the job where reading skills are more and more important.

  • More hours in your life as your reading speed increases.

  • Better quality of life as your reading, understanding and retention grow year after year.
